Egkefalos of Chalandri: The famous diagnostic center started operating again

The historic diagnostic center Egkefalos in Chalandri, part of Euromedica group, resumed its operation after a radical renovation. The five-storey health unit has been completely renovated both in terms of building and medical equipment and is now a state-of-the-art center with cutting-edge technology equipment and excellent examination areas, special lighting and ventilation in the waiting and examination areas. Egkefalos in Chalandri was the first diagnostic center in Greece where an CT scanner was placed, in 1977, and it was connected more than any other unit with neurophysiology, mainly of the brain and spine. Today, 44 years later, it is once again a point of reference in medical data.

The Company, in addition to the building upgrades, also proceeded to the installation of brand new state-of-the-art medical equipment in collaboration with GE Healthcare, a world leading company in medical technology innovation and digital solutions. In addition, Euromedica has partnered with leading radiologists with outstanding experience and proven academic training to make the most of the new equipment.

The first Revolution APEX 512 Computed Tomography system in Greece has been installed at the diagnostic center, which has been designed by GE Healthcare to provide the best possible diagnostic accuracy for all patients and in all possible clinical scenarios with the lowest possible radiation dose. Especially for heart cases, the CT scanner shows the heart in a heartbeat, thus allowing tests to be performed in cases that were previously prohibitive, such as patients with atrial fibrillation, tachycardia, stents or obese people.

The center is also equipped with two state-of-the-art MRI scanners of GE Healthcare, the 1.5T SIGNA ™ HD28 and the 3.0T SIGNA ™ Premier AIR ™. The latter, which incorporates all the new technologies of GE Healthcare, is installed for the first time in Greece and throughout Southeastern Europe, offering the possibility of performing highly specialized diagnostic and research tests. SIGNA ™ Premier AIR ™ offers the possibility of imaging diseases of the Central Nervous System, the Musculoskeletal system, multiparametric imaging of the prostate and whole MRI with diffusion method. SIGNA ™ Premier AIR ™ carries award-winning AIR ™ technology for even faster scanning with high definition and greater patient comfort.

The President and CEO of the Euromedica group Mr. Takis Doumanoglou stated:

“The current Egkefalos of Euromedica in Chalandri, marks the new era as well as the new corporate identity of the Group. The renovation of the clinics, as well as a series of diagnostic centers, is expected to be completed in the near future, while new centers will be put into operation in the regions of the country, where Euromedica operates, based on the ongoing investment plan. The guide for all our plans is the most complete provision of health services to society as a whole. We are happy to start collaborating with GE Healthcare, which is one of our key partners “

Mr. Spyridon Gikas, General Manager of GE Healthcare in Greece and Cyprus, said: “We are extremely happy to work closely with one of the landmark diagnostic centers in the health sector in the country. Euromedica is a strategic partner of ours and we are very happy that the emblematic Egkefalos center now has state-of-the-art GE Healthcare equipment that will improve the patient care experience “.

It should be noted that the rest of the equipment of the center, including the digital mammography with tomosynthesis, consists of top machinery and services of GE Healthcare in the respective imaging fields. The composition of the installed medical equipment and the collaborations with top doctors, make the Egkefalos of Euromedica, Reference Center of Imaging Technology (Center of Excellence), integrated in the global network of GE Healthcare’s reference centers, where new diagnostic examination techniques are developed.

All biopathology, check up, and molecular biology tests, including coronavirus detection tests, are still performed in the center, quickly and reliably. Furthermore, the rest of the departments, endoscopy, ophthalmology and cardiology, are expected to begin operations very quickly, all completely renewed and upgraded as well as complementary clinical specialties.
