International Men’s Day is celebrated on 19 November each year, in more than eighty countries in total, to commemorate the contribution of men to human civilisation, especially to family, marriage and childcare.
November is a month dedicated to men, with the international Movember movement launched in 2003 in Australia to raise awareness of men’s health issues – from testicular and prostate cancer, to depression and suicide prevention – and invites men in every corner of the world to grow a moustache.
The word Movember comes from the combination of “Mo”, an abbreviation of “moustache” and November and has a special meaning as it serves as areminder to men to take care of themselves and get the necessary health checks every year.
