Prevention Has No Symptoms. It Has a Date.
Prevention and early detection are essential steps in protecting women’s health. To strengthen preventive care and improve access to screening, the Greek State implements the “PROLAMVANO” National Breast Cancer Screening Programme, in which Euromedica participates.
The programme honours the memory of Fofi Gennimata and offers eligible women the opportunity to undergo free preventive breast cancer screening, helping them take care of their health without financial burden.
Digital mammography can help detect suspicious changes before symptoms appear, making regular preventive screening particularly important.
Who is eligible for free screening?
The “PROLAMVANO” National Breast Cancer Screening Programme is available to women who meet the following criteria:
- Are 45 to 74 years old.
- Reside in Greece.
- Have a Social Security Registration Number (AMKA), regardless of whether they are insured or uninsured.
Eligible women are encouraged to take advantage of this opportunity in accordance with the programme’s requirements and guidelines.
Which free examinations are included in the programme?
Under the “PROLAMVANO” National Breast Cancer Screening Programme, the following examinations are provided free of charge, depending on the indications:
- Digital mammography: The primary screening examination for eligible women.
- Breast ultrasound: Provided free of charge when indicated or when further investigation of mammography findings is required.
Examinations are performed in accordance with the programme’s established protocol. For further information about the examinations and participation requirements, visit the official website: proliptikes.gov.gr.
How can you book your appointment?
The process has been designed to be simple and accessible to all eligible women.
If you have activated the Intangible Electronic Prescription service
You will receive your electronic referral via SMS, in accordance with the programme’s procedures.
If you have not activated the Intangible Electronic Prescription service
You can contact our diagnostic centers to check your eligibility using your AMKA number and arrange your free screening appointment.
Activation of the Intangible Electronic Prescription service is not a prerequisite for participating in the programme.
Why is digital mammography important?
Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women. In its early stages, it may not cause noticeable symptoms, highlighting the importance of preventive screening.
Digital mammography is a modern imaging examination that can help detect changes in breast tissue, including abnormalities that cannot be felt during a physical examination. Early identification of suspicious findings allows for further investigation and, when necessary, appropriate medical care.
Regular screening is important even when there are no symptoms. Age, personal and family medical history, and other risk factors are taken into account when determining each woman’s screening needs.
If you notice any changes in your breasts, consult your doctor without waiting for your next scheduled screening appointment.
