Ultra Low Dose CT: The Pioneering Evolution of Chest Computed Tomography at Euromedica Egkefalos Chalandri

Innovation in medical imaging has now reached a new speed and a new dimension. At Euromedica Egkefalos Chalandri, Chest Computed Tomography is completed in just 30 seconds, using an ultra-low radiation dose, delivering top-tier diagnostic accuracy and maximum patient safety.

Cutting-Edge Technology That Makes the Difference

The diagnostic center operates the groundbreaking Revolution APEX 512 system by GE Healthcare — the first of its kind in Greece. This 512-slice CT scanner is designed to respond with absolute precision to every clinical scenario.

By leveraging artificial intelligence and advanced deep learning reconstruction protocols, it achieves:

  • Up to 40% radiation dose reduction compared to conventional chest X-ray
  • Exceptional image quality
  • Extremely fast examination completion
  • High-resolution three-dimensional imaging

This advancement enables physicians to obtain more reliable diagnostic information with the lowest possible burden on the patient.

Diagnostic Superiority

Ultra-Low Dose Computed Tomography (ULDCT) is transforming the diagnostic approach to chest diseases. According to contemporary scientific studies, it outperforms conventional chest X-ray in detecting:

  • Pneumonia
  • Pneumothorax
  • Solid pulmonary nodules
  • Early signs of lung cancer

At the same time, it significantly reduces false-positive and false-negative results, enhancing diagnostic reliability and supporting safer medical decision-making.

Comfort, Prevention, and Early Intervention

The examination is brief, painless, and patient-friendly. ULDCT is indicated for:

  • Preventive screening
  • Early detection of small malignancies or metastases
  • Monitoring of pulmonary diseases (e.g., pneumonia, COVID-19)
  • Further investigation of findings from a conventional chest X-ray

In the accompanying video, Mr. Efstatios H. Despotopoulos, Radiologist and Scientific Director of the CT Department at Euromedica Egkefalos Chalandri, presents the key advantages of Ultra Low Dose Chest CT compared to older imaging methods:

“The conventional Chest X-ray has been widely used for decades in the preventive screening of pulmonary parenchymal diseases. Its main advantage is the low radiation dose. However, the cornerstone of modern pulmonary imaging is Computed Tomography, which offers much greater sensitivity and specificity in detecting lung diseases. Its main disadvantage compared to chest X-ray is the higher radiation dose.

Ultra Low Dose CT — Chest Computed Tomography with Very Low Radiation — is a new method that bridges the gap between these two techniques. Its advantage is that it largely maintains the sensitivity and specificity of CT while delivering an exceptionally low radiation dose, equivalent to that of a conventional chest X-ray. To achieve this, modern multi-slice CT systems and advanced AI-based image reconstruction algorithms are required. Through deep learning–based image reconstruction methods, we are able to obtain excellent images, comparable to standard chest CT, but with extremely low radiation exposure.

Ultra Low Dose Chest CT is performed at the diagnostic center Euromedica Egkefalos, which is equipped with the most advanced CT scanner available in Greece. This new method combines all the advantages of conventional chest CT while offering exceptionally low radiation exposure for the patient, and it is expected to become the primary screening method for the population.

With its state-of-the-art infrastructure and specialized medical team, Euromedica Egkefalos Chalandri elevates Chest CT to a new level — faster, safer, and more reliable.

Prevention and early diagnosis now have a powerful technological ally.
