Tomosynthesis is an examination similar to digital mammography, in which multiple sections of one millimetre are taken from different angles after a short scan of a firmly compressed breast, which through appropriate processing reconstruct and visualise in 3D the breast mass and any possible peculiarities of its composition. The tomosynthesis is distinguished for its high diagnostic accuracy in the diagnosis of breast diseases compared to classical mammography, as it has the ability to distinguish normal tissues from the problem, facilitating the detection of suspicious from benign features, even the smallest lesion. This minimises the chances of false negative or positive diagnoses.
Tomosynthesis is mainly recommended for women with dense breasts or those who have some form of heredity. In addition, as a complement to digital mammography in cases of findings that require further investigation.
