The Biochemistry Department has state-of-the-art analysers and deals with the determination of enzymes, trace elements and various substances in the body. Specifically, blood tests are performed for the functional control of liver (SGOT, SGPT, g-gt, bilirubin, ALP, albumin), renal (urea, creatinine, uric acid), pancreatic (serum and urine amylase) and bone function (calcium, phosphorus, magnesium).
In addition, lipid (cholesterol, HDL, LDL, triglycerides) and iron metabolism (iron, transferrin, TIBC) tests are performed, as well as determination of electrolytes, biological fluids, vitamins, acute phase proteins and cardiac markers.
Biochemical tests can detect dysfunctions of the solid organs of the body as well as metabolic disorders of the body. Their purpose is to measure substances and biochemical factors in order to diagnose and treat diseases.
