It is a large family of more than 200 virus types, some of which cause benign lesions (such as genital warts), while others are associated with the development of cancer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>HPV infection<\/strong> is extremely common and in most cases does not cause symptoms, which means that many people are unaware that they have been infected.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-cd042aee\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>How common is HPV worldwide?<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data from the World Health Organization (WHO):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Approximately <strong>80% of sexually active adults worldwide<\/strong> will become infected with HPV at some point in their lives.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>About <strong>31% of men globally<\/strong> have an active genital HPV infection at any given time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Among women with normal cervical screening results, the <strong>global prevalence of HPV is estimated at around 11\u201312%<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Prevalence varies geographically, with higher rates reported in regions of <strong>Sub-Saharan Africa, Latin America, and Eastern Europe<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>These data show that HPV is an almost universal infection among sexually active populations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-6af2c90b\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>How is HPV transmitted?<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>HPV is mainly transmitted through:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Sexual contact (vaginal, anal, or oral)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Skin-to-skin contact<strong> <\/strong>in the genital area<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>It is important to note that <strong>condom use significantly reduces the risk<\/strong>, but does not completely eliminate it, as the virus can also be transmitted through contact with infected skin that is not covered by the condom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-uagb-advanced-heading uagb-block-cb0b0627\"><h4 class=\"uagb-heading-text\"><strong>HPV and cancer<\/strong><\/h4><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>Most HPV infections clear on their own within <strong>1\u20132 years<\/strong>, thanks to the immune system.
